Another Night Bites the Dust

Well, last night I got some more work done on several pieces of the suit. I painted resin onto the exterior of my Helmet, Left Shin, Left Thigh, and Right Boot. Now all the pieces are ready for casting. I decided I am going to give a shot at "Rondo"ing the next few pieces. This is a combination of Resin and Bondo that will harden up the interior of the pieces. Anyway, here are the photos I took last night.

Casting Call

So I sat down last night and decided to do a little casting before bed, and as usual a little casting of one piece ended up being three pieces and me not getting to bed until about 2:30.... On the bright side I got 3 pieces done! On the down side there is a lot going on at work and I am tired as hell... oops

Anyway, here is what I got done last night
Both of the shoulder/biceps and one of the shin pieces. So I now have these three and the chest all hardened up and ready to be Bondo'd and painted. I also tried on the two shoulders to make sure they fit alright.
I thought they came out pretty well! And if I look stoned or just really out of it, like I said, this picture took place at about 2:30 am...

I think my next attempt will be to Rondo my helmet, we'll see about that...

And now we play the waiting game....

I ordered some more Smooth Cast 300 last night so that I could start casting the rest of my pieces that still need some work. Lucky for me the factory is in Dallas TX and they had some in stock and were able to ship it the same day I put the order in. last time it only took a day, so I am hoping the same applies for this order! If it does I should be a busy busy bee tonight! if all goes well, I will have my EOD, Chest, Boot, and maybe even my other Thigh cast by the nights end.

So far I have been ordering from Smooth-On for all of my plastic and rubber needs. They are extremely helpful when you call them, and their website has an abundant amount of information about all the products. just figured I would give them a little shout out.

Did you smell that...?

Okay, so last night I grew a pair and went for the casting rout instead of using fiberglass. I was pretty worried about pouring liquid into my paper helmet, even as I was doing it I found myself thinking "this is a mistake..." but in the end, it was totally badass.
One of the big advantages here was that I could work inside (and not in the freezing garage) because the smooth-cast has no smell! I would highly recommend though that you lay down a trash bag or something because it is liquid you are pouring into paper with cuts and creases in it, some will escape.

Here is a inside shot of the smooth-cast after it dried
and a zoomed in shot
It is white, so it was a little hard do see on the phone pic, but you get the idea.

Anyways, now I need a little more to finish the helm off, but I am out of smooth-cast and funds... all in good time friends... all in good time.

EOD Constructed

Alright, I finally finished my EOD Helmet construction last night! Figure I will just post some pics and forget the pointless rambling... for now! Mwahahahaha.... ok that was dumb.

Figured I would get in a few action shots...
My wife took a ridiculous amount of pics... I only asked for one yet I got about 50! What a helpful wife I have.
And finally.... It was finished...
I plan to use smooth cast on this as opposed to fiberglass.... we'll see how it goes.

Once the side pieces and Helm have been cast, I will connect them all.
